Liquid Seaweed/Molasses
Liquid seaweed is a micronutrient spray which makes plants more resistant to insects and diseases, increases nutritional value of fruits and vegetables, and raises the cold tolerance of plants if applied regularly prior to freezing weather. It is also an effective control for damaging mites, both preventatively and curatively. Molasses is an energy source for microbes which live on the surface of leaves and stems. Used in combination with liquid seaweed, it increases the health and vigor of all plants.
Whole Ground Cornmeal
Whole ground or stone ground cornmeal is a very useful control for fungal problems. It is effective against all types of fungus diseases such as brown patch in the lawn, black spot on roses, and powdery mildew on a variety of plants. The granular form may be used on the lawn, around the base of plants, or can be soaked in water (put 1 cup cornmeal to 1 gallon of water and soak for 4 or more hours) then strained, and the "corn water" used as a spray. Either way it is beneficial as a preventative or curative product. Dry application rate: 10 to 15 pounds per 1000 square feet.
Corn Gluten Meal
Corn gluten meal is useful as a pre-emergent herbicide and an organic fertilizer. In order to be effective, timing is critical. Generally it should be applied in late winter for spring/warm weather weeds and early fall for winter/cool weather weeds. The meal will continue to have herbicidal properties for one to four months depending on the level of microbial activity in the soil. Application rate: 15 to 20 pounds per 1000 square feet.
Organic Fertilizers
Organic fertilizers are far superior to chemical fertilizers for many reasons. The nutrients remain in the soil until the plants need them, they do not move through the soil to contaminate ground water, they add organic material to the soil, and they feed the microbes in the soil. Chemical fertilizers, on the other hand, are polluting and destroy microbes in the soil.
Medina Plus
Medina Plus is a microbial stimulant with liquid seaweed added. Increased microbial activity in soil makes it softer and more friable, improves water penetration and retention, makes nutrients more available to plants, and reduces pathogens. Plants growing in microbe-rich soil are more vigorous, healthier, and more resistant to diseases. Medina Plus may aso be used to speed up decomposition in compost, reduce thatch buildup in lawns, and hasten the breakdown of harmful chemicals which may be present in soil.
